Other Services

Options Clinic provides a range of pregnancy-related and sexual health services so we can provide total care. We treat and advise on a range of matters relating to sexual health, contraception, counselling and care after an abortion.

Pregnancy Testing

Urine pregnancy tests are inexpensive, easy to use and reliable (97% accuracy). They're readily available at your local supermarket or pharmacy. It’s ideal to conduct a pregnancy test a week after missing a period: if the test returns a negative result, repeat the test a week later with concentrated urine.

At our clinic, we will do a pregnancy test to confirm the pregnancy and occasionally we may need to do a blood test to confirm an ongoing early pregnancy or miscarriage.

Pregnancy Counselling

We provide women with all the information they need in order to make an informed, voluntary decision about their pregnancy options. If she chooses abortion then information about the methods of abortion are made available to her.

Many patients are sure about their decision to have an abortion and they primarily want information about the abortion methods available and what to expect. Other women may wish to explore their pregnancy options more fully and obtain help in making that decision.

STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection)

For most healthy women, having the procedure is fairly straight forward. However, in some instances the need may arise to treat a Sexually Transmitted Infection.

Candidia (thrush), Chlamydia and bacterial vaginosis are the most common genital infections we come across. Here in the clinics we do genital swabs to confirm the type of infection and initiate the treatment on the same day as the procedure.

Ultrasounds

All patients will have an ultrasound examination at the clinic to confirm the age of the pregnancy and to find out whether the pregnancy is in the right place (to rule out an ectopic pregnancy).

Contraceptive

During your appointment you will be asked if there is any information you would like regarding future contraception. There are a number of additional services we can also provide regarding to contraceptive services.

We can provide you with a script for the oral contraceptive pill, or a contraceptive injection to be administered at the clinic for a low fee.

Contraceptive Implant Insertion and Removal

Another contraception option we offer is the Contraceptive Implant. This can be inserted whilst you are having your abortion procedure, or we can make a separate appointment for this procedure.

If you do require an Contraceptive Implant, please discuss this when you make your appointment.

IUCD Insertions and Removal

An Intra Uterine Contraceptive Device (IUCD) is a small device inserted into the uterus by a doctor. It lasts for 5 years and has the effect of killing off sperm, at the same time as changing the lining of the uterus to prevent the attachment of a fertilised egg. If you want to fall pregnant before the end of the 5 years, the device can be removed by a doctor.

Our doctors perform IUCD insertions and removals, and have two different types available. If you’re interested in fitting an IUCD you should discuss this with us when you make your appointment so you can have it done at the same time as your procedure.

Sexually Transmitted Infection Management

For most women having an abortion is a fairly straightforward procedure, though the presence of an STI will require treatment.

In the clinic we do a genital swab to confirm the type of infection and start treatment at the same time as the procedure.
